In 2021, Tord Asle Gjerdalen took over the record with his 3.28.18.4.

He then beat Jörgen Brink's record time from 2012 of 3.38.41 by over ten minutes.

Last year Andreas Nygaard won the men's class in a time of 3.32.18 and Astrid Öyre Slind the women's class in a time of 3.50.06.

Swede Emil Persson came second, only one second behind the Norwegian, and Swede Britta Johansson Norgren was just over two seconds behind.

Anyone who wants to be sure not to miss the showdown for victory in the men's class should sit down in front of the television no later than 11:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Brief history of the Vasaloppet

More than 1.7 million participants have raced one of Vasaloppet's various races since its inception in 1922. The competition was born a further 400 years earlier through a single person.

The Vasaloppet runs along the stretch where Gustav Vasa fled from the Danish king's soldiers.

In 1521, Gustav Eriksson (later known as Vasa) – during his escape from the Danish king – stayed in Sälen and returned to Mora to lead the rebellion against the occupying power.

Vasa united the kingdom and later became Sweden's first king.
