Despite Chelsea's massive spending in the current winter transfer window, the English club is still planning new resounding deals, in an attempt to restore its level and compete for titles locally and continually.

In this context, the Spanish newspaper "Marca" reported that the "Blues" raised its financial offer in order to sign Argentine Enzo Fernandez, the Portuguese Benfica player, who won the 2022 World Cup in Qatar with his country.

She added that the Blues administration "is preparing to put 120 million euros on the table of the Portuguese club, in order to persuade them to give up the 22-year-old young player, who won the award for the best young player in the World Cup in Qatar."

The newspaper says that the "TV series", which seemed to have been postponed to the next summer Mercato, has returned again in the past few hours.

But - on the other hand - Rui Costa, Benfica's president, is still reluctant to allow the player to leave, who seems fully ready to join Stamford Bridge.

Benfica is seeking a higher amount, as Chelsea is demanding 120 million euros in addition to the costs of the deal and bearing its taxes as well, at a time when the London club’s management insists on paying only the aforementioned amount, which is the penalty clause in the player’s contract.

Marca indicated that Chelsea intended to pay 95 million euros at the beginning of the winter Mercato, but it raised the amount now, an increase of 25 million.

The winter transfer window is scheduled to close late tomorrow evening, Tuesday, so today, Monday, will be decisive in order to complete the deal, so that there will be room for Benfica to sign an alternative player, according to the Spanish newspaper.

Chelsea is the most active club in the current winter transfer market, as it strengthened its ranks by signing 7 players during January.

The players are David Datro Fofana, Benoit Badiachel, Andre Santos, Joao Felix, Mykhailo Modric, Noni Madueki and Malo Gusto, and the latter will remain with Lyon, France, to join Chelsea at the end of the current season 2022-2023.

According to Marca newspaper, Chelsea has invested more than 200 million euros in the current winter Mercato, exceeding the total spent since the start of the season, the barrier of half a billion euros.

Chelsea became the first club in history to exceed the value of its contracts in one season, as the new owner, American businessman Todd Boyle, paid 490.5 million euros to bring 15 players, exceeding what his Russian predecessor Roman Abramovich paid in his last three years, as he spent 410.2 million euros.

And Chelsea spent more in the winter Mercato than the five major European leagues combined. The contracts of the German League teams amounted to 49.4 million euros, the Spanish League 24.1 million, the French 19.3 million, the Italian 101.8 million, and the English 22.3 million.
