Vancouver's new coach Rick Tocchet has had an approved start at his new club.

The opening 5-2 victory against Chicago was indeed followed by a clear 6-1 loss against Seattle, but last night they picked up another two-pointer when Elias Pettersson showed the way in the home meeting with the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The 24-year-old Swede started the goal shooting already after 1.15 in box play.

After being cleared by team captain Bo Horvat, Pettersson tricked Columbus' Finnish goalkeeper Joonas Korpisalo into the stands and 1–0 was a fact.

Columbus' Kirill Marchenko equalized shortly after, played by Adam Boqvist, among others, but the visitors never got any closer than that.

Before the period was over, Vancouver had managed to score two more goals and in the end they won the game 5-1 after Elias Pettersson sent in his second goal of the evening with a direct shot on the power play.

Pettersson is now up to 58 points (21+37) in 47 games played this season.
