On the day he announced the decision against FC Bayern, goalkeeper Alexander Nübel published two pictures and two words on his Instagram channel.

The pictures: He is sitting in a small stadium of AS Monaco, the French football club he has been playing for since 2021.

The words: "What else?" What else?

Counter question: What about Munich?

Nübel wants to be number one in Munich

On Säbener Strasse, where FC Bayern has its headquarters, goalkeepers have been discussed almost every day this winter since Manuel Neuer, the team's captain, was so badly injured while ski touring in December that he has not been able to play this season will play more.

The focus of the discussions: Alexander Nübel, 26 years old, who Bayern committed in 2020 (contract up to and including June 30, 2025) and loaned out in 2021 (loan contract up to and including June 30, 2023).

He wanted to leave again because he had to realize that there was no way around Neuer.

That winter he and his advisor negotiated with Bayern.

But then they announced the decision for Monaco – and the champions reinforced with Yann Sommer from Mönchengladbach, who played against Leipzig (1-1) on Friday.

But this weekend, Nübel was the focus again.

Because he was a guest at the "Aktuelle Sportstudio" on Saturday evening.

In the program, the ZDF moderator asked him why a winter move to Munich failed.

"To AS Monaco," replied Nübel.

"They didn't want to let me go." How did that fit into his "what else" post?

That seems to be as open as the T-question in Munich, where this summer - as of today - these four goalkeepers will be under contract: Neuer, Sommer, Nübel and Sven Ulreich.

On Saturday, Nübel reiterated that he still wants to be number one in Munich, but also said he doesn't yet know where he will play next season.

Because there is another factor that is neglected in most discussions: that Bayern's goalkeeping coach, Toni Tapalović, as reported by "Bild", was Manuel Neuer's best man.
