Taiki Kawayoke, who won the gold medal at last year's Beijing Paralympics, won the silver medal in the men's 18-kilometer classical standing class of cross-country skiing at the World Para-Nordic Skiing Championships.

The Para-Nordic Skiing World Championships kicked off in Sweden on the 20th of this month, with two events: cross-country skiing and biathlon.

On the 22nd, the second day of the competition, the cross-country skiing men's 18-kilometer classical and standing skiing classes were held, and Daiki Kawayoke, who won the gold medal at the Beijing Paralympics last March, participated.

The actual time was multiplied by a coefficient according to the severity of the disability. From the beginning of the race, Kawayoke and Poland's Witold Skupien fought fiercely for the lead, with Kawayoke returning to the 9km mark. I passed the point in 2nd place, 3 seconds behind the top.

Kawayoke tried to make a comeback in the second half, but was unable to reverse the race and finished in 2nd place, winning the silver medal with a time of 49:20.60.

Kawayoke commented, "It's frustrating, but I'm happy that I was able to win a medal and contribute to the team. There are still two races left, so I want to win a medal there as well."

In addition, 42-year-old Yoshihiro Nitta, who has won three gold medals at the Paralympics in the past, finished fourth among Japanese athletes.

The gold medal went to Poland's Skupien, and the bronze medal went to Ukraine's Grigory Bobchinski.
