The German national hockey team made it to the quarter-finals of the World Cup in India without any problems.

National coach Andre Henning's team defeated world number eleventh France 5-1 (4-0) in the crossover game in Bhubaneshwar on Monday.

In the round of eight, Germany meets England on Wednesday (2:30 p.m. CET/DAZN).

Marco Miltkau (14th), Niklas Wellen (18th), Captain Mats Grambusch (23rd), Moritz Trompertz (24th) and Gonzalo Peillat (59th) scored the goals for the selection of the German Hockey Association (DHB).

Francois Goyet (57th) scored the consolation goal for the French.

With victories against Japan and South Korea and a draw against Olympic champions Belgium, the German team initially missed out on first place in the group and thus missed out on reaching the quarter-finals.

After ten years without an international title, the DHB selection, which was once spoiled by success, is aiming for the third World Cup coup after 2002 and 2006.
