In 2019, Jamie Chadwick won the inaugural season of the all-female Formula One W series championship and was rewarded during the season with a seat as a test driver for F1 team Williams.

Since then, she has, among other things, won the W series twice more and made her debut in the Race of Champions.

This year, she is invited to the racing spectacle in Pite Havsbad for the second year in a row.

- I definitely want to perform better than last year.

Snow and ice are not really our world, so there is a lot that is new.

I had done some off-road rallying before but snow and ice still feel new to me.

In the team competition she beat double F1 world champion Mika Häkkinen and in the individual competition she won against then F1 driver Mick Schumacher.

But both competition days ended in the snow embankment for the 24-year-old.

- Now I know what to expect and hopefully I can do better this year, she says.

The road to Formula 1 is long

But the big dream, to become the first woman to compete in Formula 1 since Lella Lombardi drove her last race in 1976, is still a long way off.

F1 chairman Stefano Domenicali spoke last year on the subject and does not believe in a female f1 driver for the next five years.

The future of the W series is also uncertain.

The financial support is not available at the moment.

For Jamie, the next chapter still awaits.

Starting this season, she drives for Andretti in the renamed Indycar support series, Indy NXT.

The goal is of course to eventually take a place in Indycar.

- I want to continue to develop and take steps in the sport.

My ultimate goal is still Formula 1 but at the same time I have been keen on Indycar.

With this place that I've been given now, it feels closer than before, she says.
