It was a good Swedish night when the Buffalo Sabers defeated the Islanders at home.

Victor Olofsson scored and Rasmus Dahlin was noted for another assist in addition to the one that decided the match.

However, it was the Islanders who initially took the lead when Brock Nelson scored the game's first goal, after a pass from Anthony Beauvillier, in the eighth minute of the first period.

In the eighth minute of the second period, Buffalo equalized when Alex Tuch managed to put in a rebound after a finish by Dahlin.

The Islanders retook the lead late in the second when Matt Martin slipped the puck past the left post.

Only in the third period did Buffalo catch up again and then it was thanks to Swedish Victor Olofsson who received a pass from Casey Mittelstadt and directed the puck in behind Ilja Sorokin in the Islanders' goal.

2-2 stood the third period and the match went to extra time, which was however short-lived.

Just twelve seconds into the overtime period, Buffalo's Dylan Cozens scored the decisive 3–2 goal spectacularly assisted by Sweden's Rasmus Dahlin.

Sorokin in the Islanders' goal impressed greatly with 42 saves, but it was not enough for three points.

Dahlin instead chooses to pay tribute to his team's goalkeeper Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen.

- He kept us in the game.

He is becoming a monster this season, it's fun to see, says the Swedish star.

Before the game, the shirt of a former goalkeeper, Ryan Miller, was raised to the ceiling and his number 30 was retired.

The 42-year-old American played eleven seasons in Buffalo.
