The NHL periodically organizes Pride nights in connection with its games, and last night it was the Philadelphia Flyers' turn.

Among other things, the team warmed up in shirts with a Pride theme and rainbow-colored numbers on the backs.

Something the Russian defender Ivan Provorov refused to accept.

- I respect everyone and I respect everyone's choice.

My choice is to remain true to myself, says the 26-year-old who describes his religion as Russian Orthodox.

He played the match, however, and received unexpected support from his coach John Tortorella after the 5–2 victory.

- I respect that he is always true to himself and had no plans not to let him play the match, says Tortorella.

Swedish rookie Samuel Ersson got the chance in Philadelphia's box and saved 25 shots in a game that the Flyers were able to win 5–2.
