Toronto was down 4-2 in the home opener against Florida late in the second period when William Nylander stepped into the action.

First, the 26-year-old played forward Auston Matthews for the layup with three seconds left in the period.

At the beginning of the third, he then nodded in the equalizer after Sergej Bobrovsky's save on Mitch Marner's shot bounced straight up into Nylander's head.

- I haven't shot that much at the end, so it was nice to head that puck in, says Nylander.

And in the end, he crowned the effort with a solo goal in extra time.

- I got a good speed and I felt like I could go around the defender and take the puck to the far post and poke it in, Nylander told NHL.com.
