NRK reports that Lise Klaveness decided to run for the Uefa board last week after a three-hour conversation with Uefa president Aleksander Ceferin.

In April in Lisbon, nine board members will be elected and the Norwegian Football Association hopes to take one of the seats.

- I know it will be difficult.

Presidents vote for each other.

Most of them have been sitting longer than me and know each other.

There are larger nations and there has only been one female elected official there before, says Klaveness to NRK.

Lise Klaveness went to Slovenia last week to meet Aleksander Ceferin, among other things, to talk about her candidacy.

- I can never compromise with values or integrity.

But creating good relationships with fellow presidents out there who might vote for you is a crucial prerequisite for any election.

Seen from the outside, I think that all international organizations in sports, not just football, are characterized by very personal positions.

At least we want to do something about that, says Klaveness.

Got a lot of attention after speech

Of the nine board members appointed on April 5, eight of them will be elected for eight years, while one will be elected for two years.

Swedish Football Association chairman Karl-Erik Nilsson sits on the board after he was re-elected in 2021 but is not up for election in April.

There is a requirement for at least one woman on the board, that position is already held by French Florence Hardouin, but she too may have to be re-elected.

Klaveness gained worldwide attention with her speech at the Fifa congress last March, when she criticized both the international football governing body and World Cup host Qatar.
