Analysis Tesla's 'annus horribilis'
INE The price of cars, new and used, stands at all-time highs
Discounts on clothing, electronics, footwear... and, although it may not seem like it in today's environment, also on cars.
At least in Tesla's.
After the INE confirmed that the price increases in new and used cars reached record records in December last year, the manufacturer led by Elon Musk has come off the hook with a reduction of between 7,000 and almost 10,000 euros in the price of its two best-selling cars: the Model 3 and the Model Y.
The discount comes with an added prize, since this will allow more versions to be eligible for the aid of the Moves III Plan,
with subsidies of up to 7,000 euros.
Tesla Model 3, the entry-level model
The new positioning means that the relationship between price and performance is positioned as the best compared to its rivals.
Thus,
the basic Model 3, with rear-wheel drive, 283 hp and a net 60 kWh battery with which it reaches a range of 491 km, now costs 46,200 euros.
An amount that would have to be discounted (when it is charged, yes) the 7,000 euros of aid (if a car is delivered to scrap in exchange);
and another 1,210 euros that the brand contributes in this case.
Also in the versions with great autonomy
The more accessible Model Y
also has rear-wheel drive and the same battery, but the power goes up to 299 hp and the range between recharges is 455 km.
In this case, the new price is
48,200 euros, to which apply the discounts mentioned above.
The Tesla Model Y is a 4.75 meter long SUV
The discounts do not end there.
They have also reached the versions of these two models called Great Autonomy, with dual motor and all-wheel drive.
The smallest Tesla, with a power of 351 hp and a net 75 kWh battery, now costs 52,400 euros.
Its maximum autonomy is 602 km.
The Model Y
with this configuration, although with 367 CV and 533 kilometers of range,
requires an outlay of 1,000 euros more.
Since the prices without VAT of these two variants are below 45,000 euros, both are also eligible for public subsidies.
Market leaders in Spain
It is not a temporary campaign.
These are rates that are here to stay and that are possible, according to the company, as local vehicle production increases (the Berlin plant started last year) and more economies of scale are obtained.
However, they also seek to recover the value of the brand, whose shares on the Stock Market fell by 70% in 2022 and to increasingly growing competition.
So far, Tesla has managed to keep them at bay and, for example, the Model Y was the best-selling car in Europe in November (all technologies considered).
And in Spain, it was the number 1 brand among electric companies, with the Model 3 as the preferred battery car and the Model Y topping that ranking in the fourth quarter of the year.
In addition, the American manufacturer boasts that
they broke records worldwide with a 40% growth in deliveries, up to 1.31 million units;
and 47% in the case of production, which increased by 47% to total 1.37 million vehicles.
Data that, however, were below what the analysts calculated, especially in the last part of the year.
