Liverpool coach Juergen Klopp said today, Tuesday, that he is not "very loyal" to the old players in the team whose performance has declined, but that the lack of suitable alternatives prompts him to continue relying on them.

Liverpool failed to compete for the Premier League title this season and fell to ninth place, 19 points behind leaders Arsenal.

"I am loyal, and I think everyone should be loyal, but I am not very loyal," Klopp told reporters before the FA Cup third-round replay at Wolverhampton today.

"You have a good player who did a lot of good things in the past and then maybe, in your mind, you think that's all he has now. If you can get another player to replace him, it makes sense on both sides. And if you can't, you can't." You can't bring anyone in, you can't remove another, that's the way it is."

Before taking charge of Liverpool, Klopp led Borussia Dortmund to two Bundesliga titles and the Champions League final, but left when they finished seventh.

“When I left Dortmund, I said, ‘Something has to change here.

It was different there, but similar in a way;

Either I go…or many other things change.”

Klopp added, "As far as I know, from what I hear, I'm not leaving. That means maybe we have to change other things and we'll see. But it's something for the future and it will happen in the summer, not now."
