First up is the 2026 Winter Olympics in Cortina, followed by the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, the 2030 Winter Olympics (host country undecided) and the 2032 Summer Olympics in Brisbane.

- I am so incredibly happy that the Olympic broadcasts are moving home to SVT again.

Starting in 2026, we invite everyone who wants to the big Olympic party on TV, says Hanna Stjärne, CEO of SVT.

The last time the Olympics were broadcast on SVT was when the games were decided in London in 2012. In just over three years, it will be time again.

- We always want to offer the Swedish people the best and widest in the way of sports, and what could be bigger and wider than an Olympics?

We are enormously happy and humbled by what lies ahead, says Max Bursell, acting program director at SVT Sport.

First broadcast in 1960

The first time the Swedish TV audience could watch the Olympics was in 1960, and now the games are back on SVT.

- I think that the sports movement, public service media and the audience longed for that community, the broad collective memories of magical moments that people historically created together in their countries.

There has been a special relationship with the Olympic movement ever since the BBC made media history by live broadcasting the Olympic Games in London in 1948, says SVT's media director Jan Helin.

"Historical values an important part"

Through the EBU (European Radio and Television Union), SVT has purchased the free-to-air TV rights to broadcast the entire 2026-2032 Olympics.

Warner Bros.

Discovery, which already holds the rights for the 2024 Olympics, has acquired the pay-TV rights for 2026-2032.

- The historical values and accessibility for all have been an important part of this deal which also points forward in the possibilities of local partnerships to develop all aspects of such a big right as the Olympics, where Discovery internationally still owns the pay-TV rights, says Helen.
