Hundreds of millions of dollars were spent by the Chelsea team to sign players this season, the most recent of which was an unknown young Ukrainian striker named Mykhailo Modric, the player of Shakhtar Donetsk, who paid 100 million euros to sign him.

Modric, 22, was very close to Arsenal and just around the corner from moving to the "Gunners", but the "Blues" succeeded in the last meters of the race from transferring him to the other side of the British capital, London.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, an expert on player transfers, representatives of Chelsea traveled to Poland to finalize the deal and succeeded in settling it.

He added that the player - whose contract period and personal clauses have not yet been decided - arrives to London tonight to resolve all the details and undergo a medical examination.

Romano explained that Arsenal paid 95 million euros - last Thursday - to include the player, but Shakhtar rejected the offer and insisted on 100 million.

Modric drew attention with Shakhtar in the group stage of the Champions League this season, when he scored 3 goals and made two goals in 6 matches played by the Ukrainian team in Group F, which included Celtic, Real Madrid and Leipzig, and the last two teams qualified for the final price.

Modric also presented a distinguished level in the Ukrainian Premier League, scoring 7 goals and making 6 others for Shakhtar, who currently occupies second place in the championship standings table.

Chelsea had signed 11 new players this season at a cost of more than 344 million euros, the last of which was Portuguese Joao Felix, who moved from Atletico Madrid on a 6-month loan for 11 million euros.

Chelsea suffered its seventh loss this season and its third in a row in various competitions.

It also ranks tenth in the league, 10 points behind the first four places that qualify for the Champions League.
