During the night, Klas Lestander passed out of time.

He lived to be 91 years old and fell asleep at home in Arjeplog.

The Swede made history during the 1960 Olympics in Squaw Valley, when biathlon took place in the program for the first time ever.

Lestander won the competition and became the first Olympic champion in biathlon.

- It was quite special.

In those days, you only had one chance to win.

It was a single race, says son Dan to Sportbladet.

He got to spend the last hours with Klas.

- It was still a nice moment, but at the same time it was a difficult moment.

He fell asleep peacefully.

It felt like a dignified and nice ending.
