This is how it is decided:
On January 8-15, the JVM for ladies is decided in Östersund Arena for players born in 2005 and later.
Eight countries are involved and Sweden plays in top-seeded group A together with the USA, Canada and Finland.
Group B consists of Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Japan.
That Sweden plays in group A means that the team has secured advancement to a quarter-final where the third and fourth in group A face the second and first respectively in group B. The first and second in Sweden's group go directly to the semi-finals.
The third and fourth in group B play for relegation.
So was the genre:
Sweden gave a statement of strength when they won against the USA 1-0 after the turn of the year.
After two scoreless periods, Isabelle Leijonhielm stepped forward and scored the game's only goal on the power play, assisted by Jenna Raunio.
This is how it went in the latest JVM:
Sweden finished fourth in the last JVM played this summer due to the pandemic.
The team lost the bronze match against Finland 3-0.
Before that, Sweden came close to defeating the USA in the semi-finals when they led 2-1 before the third period but eventually lost 3-2.
Canada won the gold after beating the USA 3-2 in the final.
It was the team's sixth JVM gold on the women's side.
SVT's expert Maria Rooth on Sweden's chances:
- It's a really exciting squad that I have a lot of faith in.
They should definitely aspire to a medal.
They were a hair's breadth away from making it really, really far last championship and several players remain.
I think they should aim to reach the final, but definitely a medal.
