A good week before the start of the Australian Open, Novak Djokovic is already in top form.
The 35-year-old Serb won the top duel in the semifinals of the tennis tournament in Adelaide on Saturday against the Russian Daniil Medvedev 6: 3, 6: 4 and thus reached the final on Sunday.
There, the long-time number one in the world meets the American Sebastian Korda, who previously benefited from the injury-related resignation of the Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka in his semifinals with a score of 7: 6 (7: 5), 1: 0.
Treatment break for Djokovic
Djokovic had the game against Medvedev under control from the start, but had to survive a moment of shock in the first set when he was treated for a hamstring problem and even had to leave the pitch.
"Fortunately it's nothing serious, otherwise I wouldn't have continued playing," said Djokovic with a view to the Australian Open in Melbourne, which begins on January 16th.
It's a special return to Australia for Djokovic.
A year ago, the Serb had to leave the country before his first game at the Australian Open due to his lack of vaccination against the corona virus.
His visa had previously been canceled and an entry ban of three years imposed.
The entry ban has now been lifted by the Australian authorities.
"It's great to be back in Australia," the Serb said after his arrival last week.
So far, the spectators in Adelaide have given Djokovic a very friendly welcome.
