Lecce won yesterday the Serie A match against Lazio with 2-1.

But the headlines afterwards came to be about everything other than sports.

Several Italian media reports that Samuel Umtiti and Lameck Banda in the home team were subjected to racist abuse.

During the second half, the match was stopped temporarily, but Lecce's club chairman believes that Umtiti wanted to play on.

- He asked the referee for the match to continue, because he wanted to answer the insults.

He reacted like a real champion, says Saverio Sticchi Damiani.

In response to the racist slurs, the Lecce crowd started chanting Umtiti's name, and the match was eventually completed.

After the final whistle, Umtiti left the pitch in tears, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

Infantino rages

One who reacted after the match is Fifa president Gianni Infantino.

"Solidarity with Samuel Umtiti and Lameck Banda - let's say it loud and clear: NO TO RACISM!

Let the vast majority of supporters, who are good people, stand up and silence all racists once and for all!”, writes Infantino on Instagram.

Samuel Umtiti has previously represented Barcelona and he has also made 31 appearances for the French national team.
