- I was on facetime with my partner, it was seven o'clock in the evening, I tell her that I feel dizzy, which I don't even remember saying.

Twelve hours later I wake up in a hospital and have no idea what happened, Kinhult tells SVT Sport about the day when everything changed.

Marcus Kinhult had suffered several seizures.

He was hospitalized for a week in Spain, underwent tests and was diagnosed with epilepsy.

Epilepsy can have many causes, but in Kinhult's case no direct cause has been found.

He goes to a neurologist in Gothenburg and receives medication.

- Tests show nothing and all the values look okay, so I'm not too worried anymore, says Kinhult.

Injuries in the thoracic spine and shoulder

But the physical consequences of the attack in Spain were quite severe - injuries to the thoracic spine and shoulder - and affect him to this day.

- I was alone for about 20 minutes, so when the phone went downhill, no one knows what happened other than that I somehow moved eight meters in the apartment.

Kinhult has not had any more seizures since that day in Spain, but on the other hand, he has to live with sometimes having second-long, so-called, absences.

- It just shuts off the consciousness in some way.

You lose time and space.

I forget where I am, who you are and who I am.

And then it takes a few seconds, then it's quickly back again.

- It's probably nothing that bothers a lot and it doesn't come very often either, maybe once every two months.

The light in the tunnel

A few tough years with worse games, corona and then the seizure - but now Marcus Kinhult sees the light at the end of the tunnel.

- I know that I can be much better than I was before and strive towards that.

Now I also feel that there is not so much that hinders anymore but full speed ahead.

I can train and live as I want.

Kinhult's long-term dreams are to become top 5 in the world and win a major competition.

But to take that step, he needs to hone a few things.

And he knows what.

- I need to cut half a stroke off my average score and I'll be there.

I drive the ball too poorly and have a little too little potential off the tee, I hit a little short maybe too many fairways to compete with the best there.

I need to hit straighter.

You can be at the top of the average driver statistics too if you simply hit a lot of fairways.

Marcus Kinhult makes its annual premiere in Abu Dhabi January 19-22.
