Chinanews.com, Beijing, January 3rd. The reporter learned from the China University Sports Association that on the 3rd, the 31st World University Winter Games in Lake Placid, USA (hereinafter referred to as the Lake Placid Winter Games) Chinese University Sports Delegation formally established.

25 college student athletes from 14 colleges and universities in 7 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities across the country will participate in the competition of 3 major events and 11 minor events including short track speed skating, women's curling and snowboarding.

The inaugural meeting of the delegation set up three venues in Beijing, Harbin and Jilin in a combination of online and offline methods.

  At the inaugural meeting, Zhang Ailong, deputy secretary-general of the joint secretariat of the Student Sports Association of the Ministry of Education, vice-chairman and secretary-general of the China University Sports Association (hereinafter referred to as the China University Sports Association), and head of the Chinese University Sports Delegation, introduced the formation of the delegation and preparations.

  Among the teams participating in this year's Great Winter Games, the women's curling and snowboarding events are highly developed across the country. Teams and student athletes with outstanding performance were selected through the national trials of the events to represent China.

The short track speed skating team is formed with the assistance of the General Administration of Sport of China.

From early December 2022, the three teams will be training in Harbin, Jilin, Tianjin, and Beijing respectively.

  It is reported that in order to make various preparations in depth and meticulously, the meeting also carried out training for all members of the delegation on anti-doping, epidemic prevention and control, and foreign affairs management.

  The World University Games is hosted by the International University Sports Federation (hereinafter referred to as FISU), and is divided into winter and summer, held every two years.

The Lake Placid Winter Games is the first comprehensive winter event hosted by the FISU since the outbreak. It is a good platform to showcase the development achievements of China's ice and snow sports in the post-Winter Olympics period and the spirit of Chinese college students.

  According to the latest statistics from the organizing committee, a total of 1,443 student-athletes from 595 colleges and universities from 43 countries (regions) have registered for the Lake Placid Winter Games, aged 17-25.

This year's Winter Games will be held from January 12 to 22, 2023. There are 12 major events and 86 small events, including alpine skiing, biathlon, cross-country skiing, freestyle skiing, snowboarding, and short track. There are 9 permanent events of speed skating, figure skating, curling, and ice hockey, and 3 optional events of ski jumping, Nordic combined, and speed skating.
