In December, passenger car registrations fell 14.2% over the same month in 2021, with 73,886 sold, breaking a trend of four consecutive months of increases.

But the improvement in the market since August, -partly due to the recovery of sales to rental companies-, has not been enough to save a year that registers a decrease of 5.4% compared to 2021,

says Ancove, the Association National Vehicle Dealers (Ancove)

Except for the rental channel, whose registrations increased by 54% in December (6,275 cars),

both individuals and companies have suffered sharp declines.

The first registered sales of 35,958 passenger cars, with a drop of 15.1%, and companies fell 202.2% with 31,653 registrations.

The renters, the big losers

In the year,

813,654 passenger cars have been registered, 30% less compared to 2019.

By channels, only sales in the business channel increased, 3.8% in the year and 343,200 passenger cars;

while that of individuals has fallen 1.5% after registering 371,596 cars and

rental, the great pagan of the lack of stock due to the microchip crisis,

falls 35% over 2021 and 58% when compared to the purchases that rental companies made in 2019.

"The year has closed slightly above 800,000 passenger cars, which is a very negative year, without any doubt.

There is a structural problem that goes beyond the economic difficulties that have been experienced this year, with high prices for fuel, the shortage of stock and the increase in car prices. For this reason, Ancove requests a plan to recover a sector with a determining weight in the Spanish economy", comments Eric Iglesias, president of Ancove
