Chelsea's official LGBTQ+ supporters' group tweeted at the end of the first half that homophobic chants had been heard from the home supporters.

“We completely condemn the 'Chelsea Rent Boy' chants heard at the City Ground.

It's time to talk about this, the match is broadcast live on Sky Sports.

This is to be considered a hate crime," writes Chelsea Pride.

Nottingham Forest responded with an official statement after the match ended 1–1.

"The club is aware of reports that a small number of our supporters directed chants at Chelsea supporters this evening.

We do not accept any kind of discriminatory or offensive behavior.

We will open an investigation," the club wrote on Twitter.

Forest's own LGBTQ+ supporters group has also issued a statement.

“On behalf of all true Nottingham Forest supporters, we apologize.

We hope that the police intervene, and we hope that our club condemns this and takes the necessary measures.

We are embarrassed and ashamed.”
