Basketball player Aquira DeCosta had the world at his feet and several successes behind him already.

Among other things, a WC gold medal in three-on-three basketball.

But several life crises, she found out she was adopted and her girlfriend was shot to death, led DeCosta to fall into the wrong circles and just over a year ago, everything took another terrible turn.

The then 21-year-old DeCosta was kidnapped and forced into sex trafficking by a man in Sacramento, California.

After twelve weeks she managed to escape.

- It was a traumatizing event that I went through.

I'm taking one day at a time to get back to how I was.

There are still many dark memories that I have to learn to deal with, she tells SVT Sport.

Basketball has helped her back and now she is successful in the Swedish basketball league and Alvik.

She has so far averaged 24 points and 18 rebounds per game.

Now she looks ahead.

- There are no limits to what I can do.

I hope to make it to the WNBA, she says.
