Liverpool wins the frantic race to sign Dutchman Khakpo

Liverpool won the race to sign Dutch striker Kodi Khakpo, after PSV announced that the two parties had reached an agreement on Monday.

Khakpo, who scored three goals in the 2022 Qatar World Cup for his country, has previously been linked to the move to Liverpool's rivals, Manchester United.

"PSV and Liverpool have reached an agreement regarding the proposed transfer of Kody Khakpo," PSV said in a statement.

"The 23-year-old striker will leave for England soon, where he will undergo the necessary procedures before completing the transfer," the statement continued.

In turn, Marcel Brands, general manager of PSV, said that the value of the transfer deal would be record for the Dutch club.

According to reports, the deal will be around 50 million euros.

Khakpo's arrival is a further strengthening of the "Reds" attack line, after signing Colombian Luis Dias and Uruguayan Darwin Nunes last year.

German coach Jürgen Klopp's team occupies sixth place in the English Premier League standings, five points behind the top four places that guarantee qualification to the Champions League, after a poor start to the season.

However, Liverpool made a good start after the stoppage due to the World Cup in Qatar, and managed to achieve its third successive victory, at the expense of Aston Villa, 3-1, on Monday.
