The Oubagne club, competing in the French amateur league, announced that one of its players was shot dead while he was in the 14th district of Marseille.
The club published a brief statement through its official account on the social networking site "Twitter", announcing the death of Adel Santana Mendy, and offering condolences to his family.
He said on Twitter, "We learned with great sadness about the tragic murder of Adil Santana Mendy. The player will leave a great void and will forever remain one of us."
The statement concluded, "All our thoughts and condolences to his family."

Meanwhile, bfmtv revealed the details of the incident that killed the 22-year-old player.
And the French channel confirmed that Mindy was shot by a firearm, late in the evening of Friday, December 23, and received initial treatment quickly by the emergency services, but she was unable to save his life, so he breathed his last a few hours after the accident.
She added that the police rushed to the scene, and while searching for evidence to reach the perpetrators, they found 27 rounds of 7.62 millimeters.
BFMTV confirmed that the suspects managed to flee the scene using an Audi car.
It is noteworthy that the victim, who was born on May 13, 2000, in the city of Marseille, started his journey with the ball at the Olympique de Marseille Academy with the under-19 team, according to the Spanish newspaper "Marca".
