Track and field athlete Kalle Berglund has struggled with mental health issues and decided that 2022 would be a recovery year.

He refused support from SOK, and found out this week that after three years he was removed from SOK's support program Top and talent.

"Losing my support after this season makes me sad and disappointed, I thought we had come further than this," he wrote on his Instagram.

"Incorrect"

Reinebo believes that the middle distance runner took a break due to his mental health has not affected his being or not being in the support program.

- That is his hypothesis and I can understand that he has it, but it is not correct.

Absolutely not.

Those we bet on we need to give good support and take care of, but this does not mean that a specific athlete can subscribe to a place.

You are assessed based on an overall perspective.

Every year we make an assessment regarding training effort, capacity, development and results.

But it doesn't sound like you strengthen your chances in terms of those criteria if you take a break?

- We don't just look at the last few months, the competitions, the year.

Compared to other countries, we have a very long-term program.

We make an overall assessment over time, in this case three years that he has been with.

Reinebo also believes that Berglund has been offered support linked to his problems.

- Kalle has been offered support for his problems, but he has chosen a different path.

He has received that offer both before 2022, during 2022 and also before 2023. All active people who have been removed from our programs still have an opportunity to use resource persons and medical insurance for six months.

"We didn't miss this time"

Kalle Berglund was critical of SOK not giving him the negative message immediately, but that he only read it when it became official.

Peter Reinobo has investigated what went wrong and believes that the information responsibility lay with the athletics association.

They had divided the active between them as a total of 19 active are included in the program.

- We can miss, and have missed, but we didn't miss this time.

Of course, you should always receive advance information.

This time it was a mistake and it is regrettable, I feel sorry for him, says Reinebo.

SVT Sport is looking for the athletics association.
