The IOC has approved that men may compete in artistic swimming from the 2024 Olympics.

The decision means that a maximum of two men can be selected for the team competition, where each nation fields eight swimmers.

The fact that men are welcomed in artistic swimming means that rhythmic gymnastics is the only sport where only women compete in the Summer Olympics.

"Aquatic sports are universal and men have proven to be excellent artistic swimmers," International Swimming Federation President Husain al-Musallam said in a statement.

Men have competed in artistic swimming in the WC since 2015.
