On Monday, Önnered's middle six Christoffer Brännberger received a blue card (a more serious version of a red card) for handing out a tackle with his elbow.

It took a toll on Hallby's Oskar Hedvall, who suffered a minor concussion.

Hedvall told Handbollskanalen that he received an apology from Brännberger, but that it was "deep inside".

He also pointed out that Brännberger had been punished for similar incidents in the past and called for a long suspension.

Now Brännberger is criticizing the statements.

- When he looked me in the eyes and said that I hit him in the face, I apologized immediately because it was not my intention.

But after that, going out on the Handball channel and crying, getting sympathy and feeling sorry for yourself is too transparent.

He of course hopes for a long suspension for me, which ultimately benefits Hallby, says Brännberger to Göteborgs-Posten.

"Has been labeled"

As late as October, Brännberger was suspended for eleven games (shortened after the appeal) for a blow to the neck, and the disciplinary board then pointed out that he had been punished for similar actions in the past.

- I have been labeled for things that happened five years ago.

It's a contact sport and somewhere it's about balancing on the thin line the referees set up.

Sometimes we go over it and then the judges are there, says Brännberger.

Not training with the club

A decision on the matter should be expected shortly.

It is also notable that Önnered has previously spoken out about the situation and distanced himself from Brännberger's tackle.

He is not training with the team at the moment but has been given "early Christmas leave", according to Göteborgs-Posten.

SVT Sport has sought Christoffer Brännberger, who refers to his statements to Göteborgs-Posten, as well as Oskar Hedvall.
