Wilfried Happio is no longer in custody.

The international athlete, who "contests" the accusations of sexual assault on a sportswoman who allegedly took place during a party, went "out free at the end of the afternoon" on Tuesday without prosecution at this stage, indicated his lawyer Me Anthony Mottais.

The Paris prosecutor's office confirmed that his police custody, which began in the morning, had been lifted.

The file is returned to the prosecution who will assess the follow-up to be given.

Happio “relieved to finally be heard”

Wilfried Happio, 24, "disputes all the charges against him, he was relieved to finally be able to be heard," assured his lawyer.

The complainant, a 19-year-old athlete, denounces repeated touching that allegedly took place at the National Institute for Sport, Expertise and Performance (Insep), the place where the two athletes trained, on the night of 20 September 2021, after returning from an evening organized by a common sponsor.

Following his complaint for sexual assault filed on June 30, the Paris prosecutor's office opened a preliminary investigation at the beginning of the summer, led by police officers from the 12th arrondissement police station.

Targeted by an internal investigation by Insep, completed at the end of November, Wilfried Happio was not sanctioned by the institute.
