Despite the defeat in the final of the 2022 World Cup against Argentina, the popularity of the French football team has remained intact with the French public.

Sunday's match had no particular impact on jersey sales, which are doing very well a few days before Christmas.

Didier Deschamps' men returned empty-handed from Qatar but the enthusiasm around this French team has not waned.

A few days before Christmas Eve, the shops are taken by storm by supporters eager to have their jerseys flocked in the name of one of the vice-world champions.

Since Sunday, and despite the defeat, the Foot store, located in the République district of Paris, has not been empty.

A slew of supporters, young and old, come to get a Blues jersey, accompanied by its gold-coloured flocking in the name of Kylian Mbappé, top scorer of this 2022 World Cup and author of a hat-trick in the final.

"He's strong and he looks nice. Personally he's my favorite player with Ronaldo," said Simon, who came with his dad.

The combined effect of the finale and Christmas

Sunday's setback in no way called into question his love for the Blues.

"I think they deserved to win, even if the Argentines were very strong too. It was a very, very good game and even if they didn't win, frankly, they were very strong and I support. It's my favorite team", he assures the microphone of Europe 1.

In the shop, there are only about twenty flockings left in the name of Kylian Mbappé.

By the end of the week, there will be none left, says Lionel, the store manager.

"Just after the final, there was no drop in enthusiasm. People came with their jerseys to have it flocked mainly to Mbappé and Giroud and we had already sold a lot of jerseys. There is the added Christmas effect," he adds.

This small pleasure nevertheless has a cost since it takes an average of 120 euros to afford a flocked jersey.
