Biathlon overall World Cup winner Marte Olsbu Röiseland returns to the World Cup after her forced health break.

The 32-year-old will take part in the first competition of the new year from January 5th to 8th in Pokljuka, Slovenia, according to the Norwegian association.

"Now I've waited a long time and I'm happy to finally be able to say: 'I'm back!'" said the eleven-time world champion, who had to skip the first three World Cup stages in Kontiolahti, Hochfilzen and Le Grand-Bornand.

Slowed down by infections

“She has done a phenomenal job over the last few months and her body is finally responding to the hard training.

We are very excited to see what she can achieve in Pokljuka," said national team manager Per Arne Botnan.

The three-time Beijing Olympic champion was infected with the corona virus in March and then complained repeatedly about various complaints before she also contracted shingles during preparation in September.

The infection seemed to be over, but then came a setback and Röiseland had to take a complete break for several weeks.

After that she wasn't fully able to bear weight.

She has not competed in several months.
