Michelle Coleman already broke through as a teenager and was already an 18-year-old member of the Swedish team that took EN silver in the 4x100 meter freestyle in Debrecen in 2012.

Since then, there have been a further 14 championship medals.

However, all but two bronzes (one in the short track EC 2013 and one at the long track EC 2014) have been team race medals.

Near the bronze site

But today it was close.

In the 50 meter freestyle at the korbane WC in Melborune - barely two hours after she took part and took bronze in the medley team race - she finished in fifth place with a time of 23.72, she was only four hundredths of a second from Anna Hopkin in the bronze place.

- It's a shame to miss out on the medal by so little.

But if you consider that I only have four months of proper training in the bank, I am very satisfied, Coleman told SVT Sport, referring to the fact that she took a ten-month break before making her competitive comeback in October.

Best time since 2019

Coleman was last at the turn, but after a strong second half it was therefore a hair's breadth that it would be a medal.

But even if it didn't happen, it was her second best time in her career, 13,100ths from her SM time in 2019.

- It was a bit stressful at the beginning, but it was my first championship final in the 50 freestyle, so there is learning to do.

But I'm very happy that I go in and travel my fastest this evening, she says.

Home favorite Emma McKeon won in a championship record time of 23.04, 41 hundredths ahead of Poland's Katarzyna Wasick in silver.
