The former Swedish number one in tennis, Johanna Larsson, will be the new captain of the Swedish Billie Jean King Cup team, writes the Swedish Tennis Association in a press release.
“It will be a challenge.
Tennis is an individual sport and now we have to put together a team that can perform at its peak.
I'm really looking forward to the task," says Larsson, who will take up the assignment next year.
Ended playing career in 2020
As an active player, a 45th place was Larsson's best ranking in the WTA singles rankings.
She won two WTA titles (2015 and 2018) in singles and 14 in doubles before ending her playing career in 2020.
"We believe and hope that her experience and commitment will help the team climb back to the highest division," says the association's general secretary Christer Sjöö.
