A state of sadness prevailed in Brazil, after its national team was excluded from the 2022 World Cup, by losing on penalties to Croatia in the quarter-finals.

And after the streets were equipped with a carnival atmosphere and dances, a state of mourning prevailed, from north to south of Brazil, defeat cast its shadow.

And soon Rio de Janeiro's famous Copacabana beach, which had been crowded since early morning, became vacant.

The same thing was seen in Recife, where the giant effigies of some of the national team players, such as Neymar, Vinicius Junior and Richarlison, disappeared, along with a statue of Pele, the Brazilian football legend who is currently in hospital.

And in Sao Paulo, the most populous city in Brazil, silence prevailed in the streets, as thousands of fans returned to their homes, after crowding in front of giant screens in the squares.

The smile also disappeared from the faces colored in green and yellow, after the streets of the city were covered with cheerful colors in preparation for joy.

Banners supporting the national team were thrown on the ground, along with posters wishing Pele a speedy recovery.
