There were probably not many who predicted that the Pelicans would top the Western Conference, and be third in the entire NBA, this far into the season.

But last night they won the summit meeting against Phoenix with 128-117 after another performance by star Zion Williamson.

The 2019 draft pick was noted for 35 points, seven rebounds and four assists.

Williamson offered several spectacular dunks that made the arena boil - not to say boil

over

.

In the final seconds, he attacked alone with the basket, spun 360 degrees in the air and finished with a spectacular "windmill dunk", when you spin your arm a complete turn in the air like a windmill.

Rage after Zion's dunk

The sequence drew the ire of the away team Phoenix as New Orleans already had a lead that would be enough to win.

In the NBA, it is customary to let time run out if the numbers are impregnable.

Riots broke out on the pitch and players and managers from both teams had to disperse.

Phoenix guard Cameron Payne called Williamson's behavior "unsportsmanlike" and Zion himself apologized afterward.

- It was not like me.

I admit that I got carried away in the heat of the moment, says the 22-year-old.

The expert: "Can go all the way"

For New Orleans, this was the 17th victory in the first 25 games.

The star Williamson is predicted to have a brilliant career in the NBA, but has been pulled with severe injury concerns and, for example, did not play a single game last year.

This year, NBA fans finally got to see what a healthy Zion can do.

- Zion has looked good, but he is also the big question mark for this group.

His injury history is brutal, and every time he falls to the floor you hold your breath for fear that he will injure himself.

But if Williamson is healthy, they can probably go all the way.

They have the potential for that, says SVT's expert Nick Rajacic.

- New Orleans simply has the widest squad in the NBA and complement each other in a way that no other squad in the league can match.

A great mix of veterans and youngsters, as well as hungry players who want to get the job done defensively.
