Yesterday, Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic followed the achievement of his country's national team by reaching the semi-finals of the World Cup in Qatar, after winning a penalty shootout against Brazil.

He did not hide his joy during a summit meeting of the European Union's Mediterranean countries.

"It was definitely the most exciting meeting this year, perhaps ever, because of this happy ending," a jubilant Plenkovic told reporters at the end of the summit in the Spanish city of Alicante, after eight other captains congratulated the Croatia national team for this great victory.

He added, "I focus more on what is happening in my country, and I think about our opponent in the semi-finals."

A source who attended the meeting told Reuters that Plenkovic watched the final part of the exciting match, rather than attending a meeting on economic governance, while Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said all the leaders watched the penalty shootout together.
