An American journalist dies while covering the Argentina-Netherlands match

A well-known journalist working for the American "CBS Sports" channel died, Friday, in Doha, while covering a football match in the Qatar World Cup, according to his wife and the American Football Association.

Grant Wahl, 48, worked for Sports Illustrated as a football specialist, before joining CBS Sports in 2021.

He died while covering the quarter-final match between Argentina and the Netherlands.

American NPR radio reported that the journalist fell to the ground in Al-Sahafa Stadium as the match was approaching its end.

The medical staff gave him first aid, before carrying him on a stretcher.

Grant was arrested in Qatar for wearing a rainbow shirt, and said last November that he was detained briefly while on his way to the United States-Wales match, because he wore a shirt printed with the gay flag.

Grant Wahl, in a Twitter post at the time, said that as he entered the Ahmed bin Ali stadium to cover the USA vs Wales match, security guards stopped him and told him: "You have to change your shirt. This is not allowed."
