Olha Saladukha is a former world champion in three steps and now a politician in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

She is now leading efforts to draw up a list of Russian athletes they consider "Putinist" by "having participated in mass events aimed at justifying Russia's war on Ukraine."

- Ukraine will insist on the introduction of sports sanctions until the last soldier has left Donetsk, Luhansk, Crimea, Mariupol and Berdyansk, writes Olha Saladukha in a comment to the Ukrainian magazine Pravda.

Also Legkov on the list

The list produced currently includes 56 people from many different sports – including the Olympic gold winners in cross-country skiing Alexander Bolshunov and Veronika Stepanova.

Bolshunov made the list because he attended the Luzhniki Stadium to mark the annexation of Crimea in March.

His two teammates from the relay gold in Beijing Denis Spitsov and Aleksej Chervotkin are also on the list, as is 2014 Olympic five-mile winner Alexandr Legkov.

The list may grow.

Want to see lifetime ban

Saladukha believes that the recommendations from the IOC to deny Russian and Belarusian athletes are not enough.

Ukraine wants to make sure that the individuals are hit harder, including by freezing money, banning the transfer of money, prohibited entry or the right to use foreign property.

Ukraine's Riksdag wants athletes who have supported Putin to be stripped of the right to compete in Europe and athletes who have actively supported the war to be banned for life.

The same applies to Belarusian athletes who support Aleksandr Lukashenko's regime.

- Personal sanctions would be a serious warning to Russian and Belarusian actors who have not yet supported the war, says Saladukha.

The people on the list are now being processed in various committees in the Riksdag before the National Security and Defense Council will assess and decide who should be punished.
