Walker and national team mates Kalvin Phillips and John Stones take good care of two homeless cats at the luxury hotel outside Doha, where England have their World Cup base.

- We call them "Dave" and "Paul", says Phillips to English media.

The members of "Three Lions" feed their newfound, less fortunate friends daily.

Hungry, skinny cats roam around Doha in search of food.

Phillips tells the English media that he and his Manchester City clubmates met "Dave" and "Paul" one evening when they were having dinner at the five-star Souk Al Wakra hotel a few miles south of Doha.

"Chilling with us"

- The first evening a cat wandered up to us, so we threw some chicken and stuff to it.

And the next day we went to the same corner and he was sitting there waiting for us, says Phillips to The Daily Express.

- When we eat, we feed "Dave" and he sits and chills with us.

"Dave" was soon joined by one-eyed "Paul".

Phillips explains the name choices:

- They are typically English, common in Yorkshire.

I think the first name just popped into "Stonesys" (John Stone's) mind.

Phillips, Walker and Stones all grew up in Yorkshire.

Should England go all the way and win the WC, Kyle Walker has promised to adopt "Dave".

- If it is possible to bring him home.

We can share the cat, me and John (Stones).

He can stay at Manchester City's training facility, Walker told British media.

"He feels good"

At today's press conference, Walker gave a status update on how things are with "Dave".

- He had a small laceration, probably from a fight over territory and food.

But he is doing well and hopefully I can keep my promise that he can come home with us if we win the WC.

He is fine and thanks for the question.

England face France in the World Cup quarter-finals on Saturday.
