After a surprise loss to Japan, Germany already went out in the group stage, missing the playoffs for the first time in two consecutive World Cups.

After that, voices have been raised to fire the national team captain Hansi Flick.

That will not be the case, Bernd Neundorf announced today, after he had a meeting with Flick and the union's vice-chairman Hans-Joachim Watzke.

- We are all convinced that European Championship 2024 in our own country means a great opportunity for football in Germany.

Our goal is to make this tournament a sporting success.

We have full confidence in Hansi Flick and are convinced that he will take on this challenge together with his team, says Neundorf on the German Football Association's website.

"Are optimistic"

Flick says she is excited for the future.

- My coaching staff and I are optimistic about the EC in our country.

As a team we can achieve much more than what we did in Qatar.

We missed a great opportunity there and will learn from it, he says.

Since before, the association's sports director Oliver Bierhoff has resigned, after the World Cup fiasco.
