England coach Eddie Jones, appointed in 2015 and whose contract would run until 2023, was sacked on Tuesday due to the poor results of the XV de la Rose, the Rugby Football Union (RFU) announced in a press release after having "reviewed the results of the fall tour".

The 62-year-old Australian technician, who was summoned to the headquarters of the body on Monday, notably recorded 6 defeats in 12 games this year, the worst record since 2008 and less than a year from the World Cup-2023 in France.

"We have achieved a lot of satisfying things with the England team and I can't wait to see what they produce in the future," said Eddie Jones, quoted in the press release.

"I wish the players the best for their further careers and I'm sure I will keep in touch with many of them."

Following a review of the @autumnnations, Eddie Jones has been dismissed as England men's head coach.

The RFU will conclude coach succession planning in the near future.

“Eddie brought a lot to English rugby, recognized Bill Sweeney, the president of the RFU. “He won three Six Nations tournaments, including a Grand Slam and took us to the World Cup final”.

World Cup finalist

Having arrived at the head of the XV de la Rose, on the strength of his success with Japan, which he led from 2012 to 2015, Eddie Jones began his mandate by offering a new Grand Slam to England in 2016, then won the Tournament in 2017 and 2020. In 2019, his selection had come up against South Africa (12-32) in the World Cup final.

"He has a higher win rate than any England manager in the past and has helped many players or managers to improve. I am grateful to him for all he has achieved in many areas of the game. game and his professional approach," added Sweeney, indicating that England forwards coach Richard Cockerill would take over until further announcements were made "in the near future".

The former captain of the selection, Steve Borthwick, today in Leicester, is approached by the British media to replace him permanently.

England started 2022 by finishing the Six Nations Tournament in an unworthy 3rd place.

This fall, the XV de la Rose lost twice against Argentina (30-29) and South Africa (27-13), won only one match, against Japan (52-13), and snatched a draw in the last minutes against New Zealand (25-25).
