Raheem Sterling, winger of the England team that is playing in the World Cup, has had to leave the concentration in Qatar and return to London after the armed assault suffered by his family.
His wife and his three young children were inside the home when thieves broke into their Surrey home last Saturday night.
Sterling was already left out of the team that beat Senegal (3-0) on Sunday.
At first, the English Federation limited itself to reporting that the footballer had "family matters" to resolve.
The same was argued by the English coach, Gareth Southgate, once the match played at the Al Bayt stadium in Al Khor finished.
But once the reasons that led the footballer to return to England were confirmed, Southgate assumed: "Soccer, sometimes, is not the most important thing. Family must come first."
A spokesman for the player, questioned by the BBC, assured that Sterling is "shocked by the news."
And Southgate added: "We want to give him that space and we'll see in the next few days how he evolves."
The presence of the Chelsea winger in the quarterfinals of the World Cup that England will play next Saturday against France, thus, is still unknown.
In the English concentration they do not want to advance events given the delicate nature of the matter.
This is the second England player to leave Qatar in this World Cup, after Arsenal defender Ben White did so last week for "personal reasons" and the English Federation requested "privacy" for the footballer.
