The International Basketball Federation (Fiba) has given the green light "subject to reservations" to the organization in Lille of the group stage of the basketball tournaments of the Paris Olympics in 2024.

"As the Games approach (July 26 - August 11, 2024) and given the significant efforts made by all parties and their experts, it has been decided on an exceptional basis to approve this site subject to reservations, pending confirmation that the requirements of Fiba are respected, in particular those relating to the health and safety of players and the associated risks,” Fiba wrote in a statement on Saturday.

The air conditioning of the Pierre Mauroy stadium sparks debate

The room initially planned to host the group stage matches, within the Porte de Versailles Exhibition Center in Paris, had concentrated criticism from several French basketball players, pushing the organizers to move the matches to the Pierre-Mauroy Stadium, in Lille.

But the air conditioning of the enclosure in the north of France in basketball configuration had sparked discussions within Fiba.

The final phase of the women's and men's basketball tournaments of the 2024 Olympics, from the quarter-finals, must take place at the Arena de Bercy, recalls Fiba in the press release.

The 3X3 basketball tournaments of the Games are scheduled at Place de la Concorde in Paris.
