VfL Wolfsburg is undoubtedly the women's football superpower in this country.

Eleven of 14 national title wins in the past seven years have gone to the Green-Whites, in 2022 they won every Bundesliga game.

The high quality of the players who came off the bench on Saturday speaks for the exquisite squad.

It is clear that the self-proclaimed challenger of the top teams, Eintracht Frankfurt, is not up to par in terms of quality.

But performance and result in the top game first against second were devastating for the Frankfurt women.

The difference in performance at 0:5 was so blatant that the attempts by the SBU team to emphasize good phases of their own and to rant about unfortunate goals conceded seemed like whistling in the woods.

The Frankfurt women did not play "cheeky and courageous" as announced, but extremely respectful, even reverent.

Quality is lacking across the board

In the first four goals they conceded (the fifth was an own goal), the Wolfsburg team had a surprising amount of space and time in the penalty area.

The Eintracht women didn't even remotely manage to reduce the difference in quality and - actually the minimum - at least offer a fight by hook or by crook.

In her last remaining competition, mind you.

Because after the Champions League campaign ended in the summer before things really got going, Eintracht recently threw away their only real chance of winning the title – in the DFB Cup against second division club Leipzig.

There is simply no imagination as to how this team, which is well-manned at the top but not well-staffed across the board, should have adequately coped with a triple burden of league, cup and European cup.

After three years of development work and upswing under the umbrella of Eintracht, it will be time by summer at the latest to provide the many young players who have outgrown their talent age with experienced, internationally experienced forces, who have had almost unchanged personnel for years team can continue to grow.

Especially since highly talented young sky strikers like Sophia Kleinherne and Sjoeke Nüsken were recently shown their limits in the game.

From Frankfurt's point of view, it seems almost impossible to reduce the gap to the women from Wolfsburg, but also to Bayern Munich, if you "only" let the current team mature and develop further.

To what extent Eintracht Frankfurt is really willing to invest in its women's football division remains to be seen.

Third place in the Bundesliga and thus the next attempt to qualify for the Champions League is not only realistic, but should be the minimum goal.

If you want more, you need more.
