The city of Doha, where the 2022 World Cup is currently taking place, this Saturday adorned several of its buildings with a photo of Pelé, currently hospitalized in Brazil for a "respiratory infection", with a message wishing him a speedy recovery, noted AFP journalists.

Around the Lusail stadium, in the north of the city, where the final will be played in particular, or on the famous Aspire Tower, not far from the Khalifa stadium, an image of Pelé, three-quarters back, dressed in a green jersey with its famous N.10, is broadcast with these words "Get well soon".

On the corniche, the great tourist promenade along the bay of Doha, dozens of drones, which come to life every evening, drew a jersey in the evening with the inscription “Pelé” and “N.10” and the same message.

A respiratory infection

French superstar Kylian Mbappé paid tribute to Pelé by tweeting the message "Pray for the King" with the mention "Pelé".

For his part, England captain Harry Kane also spoke about the Brazilian's state of health at a press conference.

“We obviously send all our thoughts to him (Pelé) and his family.

He is an inspiration in our sport, an incredible player and an incredible personality,” he said on the eve of the English quarter-final against Senegal.

Pelé was admitted to Albert-Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo on Tuesday for a reassessment of his colon cancer treatment.

His respiratory infection is "treated with antibiotics", the doctors said.

On Thursday, on his Instagram account, Pelé had indicated that it was a routine "monthly visit" and thanked all the people who had given him their support and their wishes for a good recovery.

“Thank you (…) to all those who send me good energies”, wrote the only footballer in history to have won three World Cups as a player (1958, 1962, 1970).
