Fabian Wohlgemuth takes over the post of sports director at the Bundesliga club VfB Stuttgart.

The 43-year-old succeeds Sven Mislintat and received a contract up to and including June 30, 2025, as the Swabian club announced on Saturday morning.

So far, Wohlgemuth has worked as a sports manager at SC Paderborn in the second Bundesliga.

VfB boss Wehrle: "Set a new impetus"

"With the new appointment to the position of sports director, we want to set both a new impetus and a sign of continuity on our way," said Stuttgart CEO Alexander Wehrle.

The Swabians parted ways with Mislintat after talks lasting several days and after around three and a half years.

According to their own statements, VfB presented the 50-year-old with a “fair market offer to extend the contract”, which Mislintat rejected.

The 43-year-old Wohlgemut had worked for the current sixth in the second division in East Westphalia since May 2020.

"Fabian Wohlgemuth did a very good job in Paderborn and had a strong influence on the sporting development of our club," Paderborn's President Thomas Sagel is quoted as saying in a club statement.

"It is part of our club's DNA to enable players and employees to take the next step in their careers.

Also because the move to VfB Stuttgart was rewarded accordingly, we part with a good feeling.”

At the SCP, the head of the licensed player department, Robin Trost, will take over Wohlgemuth's duties on an interim basis.

The club wants to present a successor to Wohlgemuth in the near future.
