Uruguay-Ghana was six minutes late to the start of the second half and had a full eight minutes of added time, making it ten minutes later than South Korea-Portugal in real time.

It was a protracted drama in both arenas to come to an end.

The referees had to flee from angry players in Uruguay after the match.

In the middle of the first half, Ghana received a penalty.

Andre Ayew hit it loose to the right and Sergio Rochet went right to save, taking revenge for causing the penalty.

It was costly for Ghana.

A couple of minutes after the penalty save, Luis Suarez went for a finish after weighing into the penalty area.

Lawrence Ati-Zigi in Ghana's goal saved but Giorgian de Arrascaeta, from the Brazilian big club Flamengo, ran crouched forward and headed in the rebound from close range for 1-0 to Uruguay.

A couple of minutes later, Arrascaeta scored his second goal.

Suarez lifted the ball forward and Arrascaeta volleyed it in for 2-0.

Arrascaeta was one minute short of Juan Peregrino Anselmo's slightly odd World Cup record for Uruguay, as the earliest two-goal scorer in a World Cup.

In the first tournament in 1930 when Uruguay took home the title (4-2 in the final against Argentina), Juan Peregrino Anselmo scored two goals in the match against Yugoslavia in the first 31 minutes of the match.

Arrascaeta needed 32 minutes to score his two.

Fifa boss Gianni Infantino occasionally watched the match - when he wasn't busy with his mobile phone.
