The German Football Association president determines the next step after the “World Cup setback”

German Football Association President Bernd Neuendorf regretted the early exclusion of the "machines" team from the World Cup finals in Qatar.

Neundorf explained that this exit is "extremely painful," calling for a meeting with federation officials to analyze the situation.

"You can imagine that the course of the previous day represents a bitter disappointment for us. Exiting the tournament hurts a lot," Neuendorf said in a press conference held at Doha Airport today, Friday, during the departure of the German national team's delegation from the Qatari capital.

Neuendorf added: "However, we have to look forward, and therefore we will initiate an orderly procedure on how to deal with this situation."

Germany defeated its Costa Rican counterpart 4-2, yesterday, Thursday, in the third (last) round of Group E in the World Cup group stage, to bid farewell to the competition together, after Japan and Spain snatched the nomination papers for those groups for the knockout roles.

The Japanese national team defeated Spain 2-1, in the match that took place between them in the same round, at the same time as Germany and Costa Rica.

Neuendorf announced an upcoming meeting with the coach of the German national team, Hansi Flick, the director of the German Federation, Oliver Bierhoff, and the vice president of the German Football Association, Hans-Joachim Watzke, next week.

Neuendorf explained that the aim of this meeting is to conduct a preliminary analysis of the tournament as well as develop prospects for the period following the Qatar 2022 World Cup, with the aim of preparing for the European Nations Cup (Euro 2024), which Germany will host.

And the German Football Association president stressed: “On this basis, we will hold further talks.”
