The two-time European obstacle course champion Gesa Krause is expecting a child.

"I'm going to be a mother next year.

The time will probably come in early summer 2023,” announced the 30-year-old track and field athlete on Friday at the German Road Races annual conference in Trier.

The fifth in the Olympics from the Trier Silvesterlauf club is not thinking about the end of her career, but about her fourth Olympic participation after 2012, 2016 and 2021. "The 2024 Olympic Games in Paris remain my big goal," said Krause.

“I definitely want to experience the Olympics a fourth time.

And a fourth time in the final.” No steeplechase runner in the world has ever managed that.

“The road to Paris will certainly be difficult.

But anyone who knows me knows very well that obstacles have seldom stopped me,” said Krause.

The marathon runner Katrin Dörre-Heinig - the wife of her trainer Wolfgang Heinig - would have had her best years after the birth of her daughter Katharina.

If her pregnancy runs smoothly, Gesa Krause wants to start at the 33rd New Year's Eve Run in Trier this year.

“There are no medical concerns at this point.

I would like to go into the break with a positive feeling - our New Year's Eve run is the best opportunity for that," said Krause.

After the baby break, she wants to get back into training for Paris 2024.

Participation in the World Athletics Championships in August 2023 in Budapest is still too early.
